Dr. Chow is an active member of the American Orthopaedic Association and a diplomate and fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and is the current Director of Orthopaedics at St.Mary’s Good Samaritan, Inc.
Dr. Chow’s board of director appointments include: AAOS Board of Specialty (2003-2006), AAOS Board of Councilors (2008-2014), AANA Education Foundation - Board of Trustee (2007-2014) (Chair 2013-2014), Editorial Board Arthroscopy Association of North America, Asian and American Institute for Research and Education, Chinese Speaking Orthopaedic Society, International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine, Illinois Orthopaedic Society, Arthroscopy Association of North America Education Foundation – Trustee (2007-2009), and Arthroscopy Journal – Board of Trustees (2001-2009), and ISAKOS Board (2009-2011).
In 1999, Dr. Chow received approval from the ISAKOS [International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine] to host international fellows in Mt.Vernon who request further training in Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery, and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine. Also, he received approval from AANA [Arthroscopy Association of North America] to participate in its fellowship program.
In 2000, Dr. Chow was awarded “Outstanding Alumni of the Year” by his medical school during its 100 Year Centennial Celebration. He is also the 24th president of the Arthroscopy Association of North America (2005-2006), and a member of the Board of Directors, International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine.
Dr. Chow was elected by the Illinois Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons to the Board of Councilors of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. Nationally, Dr. Chow has served over 10 years on the editorial board of the Journal of Arthroscopic Surgery of North America, the Board of Trustees of the Journal of Arthroscopic and Related Surgery, and on the editorial board of the Journal of Clinical Orthopaedics. He is a clinical assistant professor at SIU School of Medicine in Springfield.
He is licensed to practice medicine in Illinois, Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont, Missouri, Hawaii, Canada, British Commonwealth, Hong Kong and the Republic of China.
Internationally, he is a member of the Canadian Orthopaedic Association, the Orthopaedic Association of China, and an honorary member of La Sociedad Argentina de Arthroscopic.
In a teaching capacity, he is a master instructor in arthroscopy at the Learning Center of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons in Chicago. He has also been responsible for more than 400 presentations worldwide including lectures, video tape productions, exhibit preparation and slide show development.
Dr. Chow has authored, co-authored, and contributed to many articles and books. He is also active in both clinical and laboratory research. His book, Advanced Arthroscopy was published in November of 2001.
Dr. Chow has many United States patents and is considered a pioneer in the development of Endoscopic Carpal Tunnel Release surgery of the wrist and Osteochondral Transplantation for Chondral Defect of the Knee. To schedule an appointment with Dr. Chow, please click here.
