Our Sports Medicine Team
Orthopaedic specialists at the OCSI Sports Medicine Program are leaders in the field, employing the latest non-surgical techniques to facilitate a speedy recovery and the latest arthroscopic surgical innovations when necessary. Our experts will keep young athletes healthy, optimize performance and get them back on the field sooner after injury. Dr. Ben Houle, Dr. Angela Freehill and Devin Haertling, PA-C are a winning combination for all of your sports medicine needs.
Orthopaedic Center of Southern Illinois has been a leader in establishing a Sports Medicine Program in the area since 1995. The OCSI Sports Medicine Team of Orthopaedic Surgeons and Athletic Trainers provide medical coverage to the Mt.Vernon RAMS as well as several area high schools.
The services provided to the area athletes include selected game/practice coverage, weekly injury evaluations and yearly sports physicals.
In addition, OCSI offers a sports clinic where the athletes have an opportunity to be evaluated by an Orthopaedic specialist and receive the appropriate treatment plan or referral as needed. If there is a need for X-rays, MRI or Physical Therapy; all of these can be obtained in the same building.
Services Include:
On site, high school and injury evaluation and referral by a Licensed Athletic Trainer (L.A.T.).
Weekly Sports Medicine Injury Clinics (by appointment only) to specifically address athletes injuries from the previous week, in order to return the athlete to competition as soon as possible.
Use of proven therapy techniques and state-of-the-art computerized isokinetic equipment (Lido Active) and modalities for effective rehabilitation of sports injuries.
Community speaking engagements presented to area coaches, parents, and teachers concerning injury prevention, evaluation, and care of sports related injuries by our staff of ATC’s (upon request).
Allied Healthcare Providers in-services presented by our Orthopaedic Surgeons throughout the region (upon request).
